Best Practices

At Ambrosia Labs, our top concerns are the health and wellbeing of our donors, their children, and our customers. To provide the safest, purest human milk we follow guidelines and best practices outlined by Food and Drug Administration and industry best practices. We screen our donors and milk at multiple stages in order to provide you with the safest possible product.

Before donating, all of our donors must pass blood tests, drug tests, and a comprehensive screening questionnaire. Our donors are then screened by a medical professional to ensure that they are healthy enough to donate. In addition to the initial screening, our donors are re-screened every six months. All of our donors are screened for the following diseases:

  • HIV I/II

  • Syphilis

  • Hepatitis B and C

  • Chagas disease

  • Tuberculosis

  • Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV)

In addition to blood screening, we screen our donors for prescription and over the counter medications, drugs of abuse, alcohol, caffeine, and tobacco. We require our donors to donate in our donation clinic, which makes us the only company to have complete control of the supply chain.

After donation, the milk is heat processed to ensure there is no microbial activity. We use a processing technique that kills potential bacteria while preserving the vital properties that make breast milk so amazing. Heat processed breast milk is the recognized standard in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) in hospitals when mother’s own milk is not available. While some nutritional value is lost during heat processing, heat processed milk is much better for your baby than unpasteurized milk sold online

Immediately after processing, the milk is frozen to minimize nutrient loss and preserve its freshness. Each batch is then tested by an independent lab to guarantee that there is no microbial growth.
